On the 7th June 2010 at Warrington Magistrates Court Maureen Spalek will be presented before the court to answer to the most trivial, but very highly significant charges of having sent a birthday card to her child.

For those not familiar with her story, Maureen's children were taken away from her loving care a few years ago.

Baby Peter social workers admit failures

Two social workers involved in the Baby Peter case have admitted failing to follow procedures to protect him in the months before his death.

Maria Ward and Gillian Christou accept they did not keep adequate records in the case, a General Social Care Council (GSCC) conduct committee heard.

The pair did not attend the hearing as they feared more negative publicity.

He told her he had been approached by two young women he had previously encountered through his work at the council. Mason said the women had accused him of involving them in "some sort of sexual orgy", but that the police had subsequently questioned him and accepted his explanation of the events.

Salford Council terminated Mason's placement and he was removed from the books of his employment agency Liquid Personnel.

However, Mason failed to disclose that Salford had terminated his placement when applying to renew his registration with the GSCC on 10 July 2008.

Ed Balls Fined after putting HIS childrens lives in danger

Mr Balls, who is married to fellow Cabinet minister Yvette Cooper, told the Daily Mirror that the incident happened last Sunday when they were driving from Yorkshire to London with their children.

''Although our car has hands-free, I took my phone off the cradle because I did not want to wake the kids,'' he told the paper, in an admission that put his own children at risk of immediate harm in a reckless and impulsive way.
